After picking up Super Kid from school at 3.15pm it’s really easy to head home, switch on the TV and veg out. We’re all tired, and it’s a real lull in the day. This week I have been trying something new. I have been giving them an hour of free play, preferably in the garden. Time for them to use their imaginations and their resources and find ways to entertain themselves without the help of a electronic devise or much input from me.
Basically time to just be, no after school activities, no adult led play, no games consoles. Old fashioned play time. If it’s outdoors then even better.
Today we even found time for an impromptu photo shoot, can you tell my children love to be in front of a camera?
So what’s your approach after school? How do you fill that time between school finishing and dinner?
It is not pouring down I always send them straight outside. No plan, no structure, just mooching in the garden. I usually tempt them out with offering a snack on the steps, then they just do their own thing (usually with mud) 🙂
i am guilty of putting on the TV when Burton gets home from pre school at 3.45pm on mondays and thursdays while he has a snack and a drink!! however, if it is sunny like today then i shoo him and Jenson into the garden as soon as we step out of the car to play for a bit before heading indoors.
i think as long as its not all day, a bit of TV time before tea is ok
great photos – i still cant get over how big S is looking now!!
