Mr Purple is a very keen gardener, and very handy at DIY too. So he designed and made this beautiful water feature for our garden.
How To Make A Water Feature From A Belfast Sink:
Firstly we were lucky enough to have been given an old Belfast sink. I’ve had a little look online and it looks like you could pick one up for around £60. Which still makes this a relatively cheap garden improvement project.
You will also need:
- A plug
- Silicon aquarium sealer
- Small adjustable pump
- Decorative stones
- Wood for under and ledges around the sink: we got ours from Ikea where they always have a free scrap wood box.
- Plastic crate
Step By Step:
1. Sit the sink on some wood and make sure it is level.
2. Put in the plug and seal to make the sink watertight.
3. Put the pump on the bottom of the sink. Cover it with a plastic crate
4. Plug pump into an outdoor socket.
5. Fill to level with the overflow with stones. Fill with water.
6. Switch on and enjoy!
I love this, what a fantastic idea…
Thank you.
Love it 🙂 I am sure I once had a Belfast sink now who did I give it too!!! I love things like this. I have a old stone sink made from Bath stone. My Grandad dug it up himself whilst preparing ground for a building site. I puts dibbs on it when my Grandparents had both died as I always loved it. It has a Japanese acer in it like a over-sized Bonsai which now must be at least 60 years old!!!
Lovely, we have a few similar acers as Purpledad is a fan.
love this, thank you for the idea, I am thinking of adding a black hand pump as the waterfall – just got to ask my father in law to help me!!
What size pump would you need for this pkease? Also l see you have used glass stones, that’s going to take some filling! And was it costly?
We used a small pump, and you could half fill with ordinary stones and just cover the top with glass stones if you like the design and want to cut costs. We had a large collection already and just used those.
That looks amazing. We have just been given a Belfast sink and am planning on dining it into the ground and then add some waster plants sones etc , and plant wild flowers round it.
So does the pump sit on top of the plastic crate?
