It’s the first of May, and my monthly May aspirations post is right on time. A sign of my head state, I’m feeling efficient. Last month’s aspirations were about organisation, healthy eating, and tea drinking. I didn’t get to the tea drinking often, no matter how much I like the idea of the ritual and calm of tea drinking it just doesn’t seem to be my thing. Never mind. I did make inroads with healthy eating and organisation. I’ve been efficiently plodding through my to do lists and I feel better for it.
So May begins, and perhaps we can officially call summer? When does spring end and summer begin? I’m really not sure. Anyway BBQ’s and lazy summer days are calling me, and I’m counting down the weeks until the school summer break.
This month my first challenge is to be a more adventurous cake decorator. I make good cake, taste wise, but decorating isn’t my forte. So when it comes to the children’s birthday cakes I either ask someone else to make the desired creation or slap brightly coloured butter cream all over and buy a cake topper. This month is Wonder Girl’s fourth birthday, and she wants a Doc Mcstuffins cake. So I’m going to attempt to make a Doc Mcstuffins medical case in cake form. It will involve carving, and smooth icing, and presents a bigger challenge than usual. Cross your fingers for me dear readers.
I’m also going to take some time to do something for our environment. I’ll be taking part in the M & S big beach clean up on 12th May at Sand Bay (the event runs from 7th – 13th of May and you can sign up here). As the official blogger I’ll be helping to clean up the beach, as well as spreading the word about the event online.
One of my aspirations is to keep in touch more regularly with the people I love. So this month my cousin and I will be going to see Take That together. I’ve wanted to see them since they reformed and I’m really looking forward to this trip.
Another aspiration is to reconnect with the pre children me. Now that the children are a little older it’s time to remember what I enjoy doing and who I am outside of my role as mother. One of the things I used to be very passionate about is dance, particularly contemporary dance. Mr Purple and I are going to see Matthew Bourne’s ‘The Car Man’, this month and I’m excited to be seeing a dance show for the first time in years. I’m also considering an adult ballet class, it would be great to have a regular date to dance in my weekly schedule.
Finally May brings our first camping trip of the year. Time to dust off the sleeping bags, erect our beautiful bell tent and let the children go feral outdoors for a weekend. What could be better than lounging in camping chairs, without a care in the world, whilst the children explore, it’s good for everyone. Fingers crossed for good weather, because it really does make all the difference.
So those were my aspirations for May, what are yours? Whatever you’re aiming for I hope you have a fantastic May 2015.
