Camp festival 2016

Summer is here and that means the Purple family are on the count down to Camp Bestival 2016! We’re making plans for our outer space theme costumes, packing freeze dried space food and ensuring that The Enterprise (our people carrier) has passed its final checks. If you’ve not got tickets yet then I’d strongly recommend popping over the website right now and sorting that out, cos the line up is awesome and you do not want to miss out.

My picks from the Camp Bestival 2016 line up;

For younger children;

Wonder Girl is five and there’s loads for her, and even younger children to do at Camp Bestival. Last year she loved rocking out to bands on the bandstand in the kid’s area and riding the carousel. This year I picked out Aliens Love Underpants the stage show, as we love the book,  and Lazytown Live as must sees for her.

For older children;

Super Kid is nine and Robo Boy seven and they’re at prime Camp Bestival ages. Last year they enjoyed playing in the vegetable orchestra at the science tent and learning circus skills in the kids area. This year I think they will enjoy seeing Dick and Dom on the main stage. The boys love watching them on the Dick and Dom show, these guys crack my boys up, and there’s nothing sweeter than seeing my children genuinely laugh out loud at something which amuses them.

I’m also excited to see that the Bristol based Explorer Dome will be there this year. The boys have been in their pop up planetarium a couple of times before and always enjoy it, entertaining and educational in equal measure.

For teens;

I don’t yet have teenagers but last year we noticed that age group converging at The Den, a space just for 13-17 year olds. There is music, film screenings and open mic sessions among other things.

For adults;

The fabulous thing about Camp Bestival is that there’s entertainment for everyone, and the adults are definitely not left out. Last years highlights for us were Kate Tempest on main stage and letting our hair down and dancing to a very camp swing band one night (I’m afraid to say I don’t recall their name) in the kid’s area. This year I’m hoping to catch Fat Boy Slim on main stage, we’re long time fans and have never seen him live. I’m also looking forward to singing along and letting loose to Bananarama, also on main stage.

For everyone;

Camp Bestival recently announced that the world’s biggest bouncy castle will be at the festival this year, and who doesn’t love to bounce. In fact I’ll be packing my tena ladies especially.

Another family favourite is the Wall of Death, where you can witness insanely brave motorcyclists do crazy stunts in what feels like a pretty rickety bowl with audiences stood around the top. It’s thrilling and I will be definitely adding it to our schedule for this years festival.

We are all very excited about heading to Camp Bestival 2016, see you there!
