Masking is hiding your autism behind imitated non autistic behaviour in order to fit in. It is something that autistic women and girls commonly do, often from a very young age. This makes the diagnosis of women and girls complicated and difficult as sometimes the mask is so strong that it is very difficult to identify the autism.
In today’s video I’m talking about masking, my own personal experiences of masking and whether I think it is a helpful strategy.
