It’s time for this months Autism In Company video. Ros and I are talking about autism and mental health. We discuss the differences between mental health issues as part of autism, and mental health diagnoses as a co-morbid condition. In addition we suggest some basic strategies for maintaining good mental health.

Hi Purple Ella,
I enjoyed watching this video as I can only relate. I got diagnosed with Autism 4 years ago, I’m now 28 soon to be 29! I got my diagnosis in Bristol at BASS and they were ok. They referred me on a 4 week anxiety course which was great because it was with other aspies and we could all share our differences and uniqueness. Up untill now my everyday anxieties were managed with my coping mechanisms and strategies and they eventually hit rock bottom when I started obsessing over my health. I went to go seek help with this from of anxiety to my GP who referred me to a talking therapy service. I’m not sure if you have had access to this service but its so shit! I met a guy who wasn’t fluent English so I naturally found it difficult to consult with him. This first meeting wasn’t therapy it was an assessment about me self harming and where in relation to the practitioners table I ranked dangerous or not! This session lasted around 40 minutes with no conclusion. I mentioned all my health anxiety but nothing came of it, it left me so confused, I mean my communication is awful at times but this was something else! Could you recommend anyone? I live in Bath. Also I was going to write an article on Autism & Communication with the focus being on friendships, family & Love. Would this be of interest to you? Really enjoy your youtube too, many thanks.
